This band is on the softer side, but it's actually pretty good. They are a local band from Valdosta... everytime they come to Tallahassee I go see them. State of Man I think their CD is still downloadable for free on the site. I think the one called "Swallow your Fears" is the single they are trying to get played on the radio right now. Other than them... I like Alexisonfire, underOATH, Drowning Pool, Flyleaf, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying... the list can go on forever I'll stop here.

Mmmmm that "Over The Hills And Far Away" from NIGHTWISH is original from GARY MOORE...
ARCH ENEMY is cool, but is another style...
And if you like metal&female fronts, of course your choice is... DORO PESCH. The Bride of Heavy Metal.
My favourite band is Judas Priest. Man it rocks!!! Indeed, nearly all the best Heavy Metal bands come from Britain, with a few exceptions.
Among my favourites: AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Manowar, Kiss, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Metallica (pre-Load), Megadeath, Rainbow, Lordi, In Extremo, Motorhead, etc).
Although I am not much into Punk, I like Toy Dolls, Misfits and of course the mega-masters: Ramones. :howl:

I like the original version of over the hills as well, but I like the Nightwish version more. I am also happy to see another person who likes Lordi.

I don´t know if you are aware, but Lordi won the Eurovision song contest this year. It was a big surprise, as this is a song contest with a lot of pink-flavoured-mild-yummy-snob-silly artists... in which sometimes we see something different, like T.A.T.U. a couple of years, or Lordi (they went with Hard Rock Hallelujah, with a lot of fireworks on stage and all this... espectacular!). After all, Lordi´s frontman is Finland´s Kiss Fan Club President.
Man, you should have seen his hat... (the same as Uncle Sam´s, dunno the proper name... but with Finland´s flag!!).

I had heard they won, although since I live in the US I am not sure really how big of a contest it is, but it did seem like it was a big deal for them to have won. I like the video of the song, but then again I like all the videos they have done so far. Now if only contests here would have bands win that are something other then the "pink-flavoured-mild-yummy-snob-silly artists... " as you put it bands.

Eurovision... some 30 years ago or so it was big and famous, now it has declined and nobody cares about it... the fact that makes winning it important is that I never expected Lordi to do it... is not pink-silly-etc... read that as something akin to:
a) Britney Spears or so... b) Celine Dion or so... c) Mark Anthony or so...
which is alright if not for the fact that either you sing like those, or you sell no albums...

I've actually gotten into a lot of Luca Turilli lately. For those who don't know, Luca Turilli is the singer-composer for Rhapsody, which is on Limb in Germany. they do a lot of symphonic-melodic metal. I tend to think of them as in the same general category as Sonata Arctica or Nightwish. Christopher Lee was narrator on their latest album.
Luca also does solo albums. I highly recommend Lost Horizons (which he put out under the name DreamQuest). It blends metal with electronic and operatic vocals from Maya, who has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.

I was really into Rhapsody (now Rhapsody of Fire) about 5 years or so ago, as well as Luca, although I did buy the latest Rhapsody album. If you have not seen any of their videos they are cool. Luca only has Ancient Forest of Elves as far as I know, Rhapsody has like 5 or so, but all the videos are cool since they involve castles, magic, and other random fantasy things.

I was wondering If there is a place where I can hear snippets of Nightwish, I had never heard them and I'm guessing I may like them as well. My old days I was into most metal, Pre Load Metallica, slayer, pantera, Iron maiden, danzig, megadeath, fates warning, queensryche, Even a bit of Marylin Manson (too much emotional stuff happened in my life while listening to him so cant bear it now) I've mellowed out abit , Dave Mathews, Blue Traveler, Coldplay, Default, Nickleback, Creed, Eve6, incubus, Filter, Fuel, MB20, hehehe even some Enya, and Enigma  Basically Give me anything with a beat, Grinding or not as long as its not c(rap)

You can listen to some music right on their site. www.nightwish.com/en/files/audioThey may be good for you if you have mellowed out as they are not a really loud metal band, but I am comparing that to some of the other bands I listen to. But at any rate the clips there may not represent what will be on their new album since they have a new singer now, so things are likely to change. If you like them I can probably find some of their video clips as well online.

They are from Finland. Most of their music is a mild to medium metal type beat with symphonic instruments. Their old singer was great since she was certified in the entire opera range of vocals, and I guess that is the hardest range to get certified in, so I hope their new singer is just as good, or close.

I checked out that album Zero talked about for Luca and I like it. They have a female vocalist who is similar to the old Nightwish singer, so I liked it for that, but I also vastly prefer female fronted bands.

Well, Dreamquest is still Luca Turilli's project, so technically he fronts it. But you're right, Maya has a wondrous voice.
Which former Nightwish singer are you talking about (I am ashamed to admit that I don't really know much about any of the Nightwish vocalists).

So Dreamquest is another band he is doing, not just the one that is his name? And Maya is the singers name then? I should find more stuff she has done. Anyway though Nightwish has only had one singer so far, Tarja Turunen. Their new singer I think gets announced in may with a new single.
