I like to travel if I can and so far I have been to Spain, France, Italy, Monaco, and Kuwait and Iraq which dont really count as pleasure trips. I could even count Germany and Ireland, but I have only been to their airports on my way to Kuwait and Iran. But there are still many places I would like to go, however, Greece is where I want to visit most since I am fascinated by ancient Greece. I plan to go there in 2020 because it will be the 2500th anniversary of the Battle of Thermopylae. One of my friends wants to go with me as well and we might even get motivated and run the original marathon course, but it is so far away still the I do not know if we will even be in good enough shape by then to do it.

I've always wanted to visit Greece, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, England, France and Egypt... I also really want to go to the Vatican City. I doubt any of this will ever happen since so far I haven't been able to even get off the eastern coast, except for one trip to New Mexico which I was so sick that I only left the hotel room for one day of our whole trip arghh.

You never know, just because you have not gone anywhere yet does not mean you wont be able to later. If you ever get to the Vatican City make sure to wear pants since if you do not you will not be able to go inside. I found that out the hard way when I was there, so while the rest of my group got to go inside I was outside with one other person looking at the guards.

Pants? What's the reasoning behind that?
I have been all over the United States, although there are still a few places I'd like to visit and some others I'd like to visit again such as Washington DC, Yellowstone, and Seattle. I would love to visit China, Egypt (the pyramids mostly), Greece, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Peru (mostly the ruins), Mexico City (have been to Monterey), Cancun, and the list goes on and on.

I am not sure if the pants rule it still in effect since there is a different Pope and all since I was there but as far as I know the reason was it was supposed to have been disrepectful to wear shorts. Probably something along the same lines of how long ago a woman showing an ankle was taboo. I think when I was there there the other person was a girl from my group that could not go in either because she had a dress on that was not long enough so part of her lower legs showed.

Yes it is a pious holy city and there shouldn't be any impure thoughts while within it... therefore you can't show any skin that may trigger impurity....

I wonder if that does have anything to do with it since it makes sense logically. Oh well though, other countries all have laws that we would think it weird. Like in Iraq you always shake hands or do pretty much anything when dealing with one of the locals with your right, because the left hand is considered unholy and they do things with their left such as use it as toilet paper. It makes me wonder if since I am left handed if I would have been killed.

I suppose being a nun or gay priest could make a difference! It does make a warped kind of sense.
Uhm, using your left hand as toilet paper would definately make me not want to shake it and would in an odd way make it unholy (definately unclean). So, if you're born left-handed does it make you evil or something? Would the offending hand be cut off, would you be very quickly trained to use your right hand, or would you be killed outright as some sort of evil being?

Sorry I wasn't part of that convo. I'm from Scotland and I've been to most of the places you wish to see. Only one thing; JUST do it. And as far as troose (pants) go. "When in Rome..." And you'll find that's true for most countries. 99% of all people you meet will be friendly, in perspective you would need to meet every single person in NY 10 times to meet a bad one. Taking the population of our world. Alas the mass media making you worry. So you just go and enjoy, remember you are a visitor and all will be fine. One last bit, It's nice to be nice. And people respond to that.
you were so sick coz the pathogens in the water, happens to most. Your belly is just not used to them. 'Pathogens' is a suss spelling. You will find that a lot with me. If you ever travel see your doc or pharmasay for 'Imoden' (A wee capsule to stop the world falling out your bottom) and get the jags. It'll save you heaps of discomfort. And let you enjoy your sight seeing. Tip No. 1 ALWAYS know how to say hello, water, food. In the country you visit. In their language! Shouting does not help! Apart from that; Go forward and see for your self.
I am jealous of you being able to live where Sacred like scenery is all around you. I so wish that there was castles here in the states that can actually qualify as what one should look like. Since you are so well traveled which countries have you enjoyed most?

Hello Garwark! I have to say that I am also jealous of anyone who lives where you do and has travelled so much. It would be a wonderful thing if I could "just do it". Alas, working seven days a week and having little cash prevents it.
Yes, Imodium and bottled water is a must when travelling! Found that out when I went to Monterey. Loved every second of my trip there, though. Almost bought a house there and stayed. The people were wonderful and the food was great! Fresh tortillas on every corner! YUM!
