So I'm a compulsive baker. (Not really a totally figure friendly hobby) And recently I've been researching the "perfect" chocolate chip cookie, and I was just wondering if anyone on here has a recipe they absolutely love. I'm trying to combine a lot of people's favorite into one amazing recipe. Thanks for any help

I do the back of the Tollhouse thing as well, but with the addition that I overflow on the vanilla. It was something my mom did so now me and my sister do it as well. So while I do not know the actual measurement that is used I think it could be almost double, just depends. We normally are pouring slowly and as long as it takes us to slowly say something like "Oh no, look at that, it overflowed", is about how much extra to do. It also have to be a good quality vanilla. I like the Watkins brand and I think they even recently partnered with Walmart so it is not as near to impossible to find now.

I definitely agree with the overflowing vanilla. I don't think I even measure mine.
So the butter... do you just soften it or completely melt it? I think it makes a huge difference.

I usually just soften it then cream together with the white suger, then add the brown suger, then vanilla. Then add the eggs, (in another bowl I have the flour, bsoda, salt,) Then add the flour mix This is my basic mix steps for all my cookies I make Killer Gingerbread cookies!

Ok. Here it is... after a lot of very tasty researching, I think these are the absolute best chocolate chip cookies. This recipe is roughly based on one from Alton Brown on the food network, but with a few changes. Hope it works for you 2 sticks unsalted butter 2 1/4 cups bread flour (make sure it’s not all purpose, they won't be nearly as good) 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 cup sugar 1 1/4 cups brown sugar (light brown works best) 1 egg 1 egg yolk 2 tablespoons milk 2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips 1 cup milk chocolate chip A dash of cinnamon 1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2) Melt the butter entirely in the microwave. Be sure not to boil it, but it does need to be completely melted. 3) Cream the butter with the both types of sugars, milk, and vanilla 4) Add in eggs, and combine 5) Mix flour, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. 6) Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the sugar and butter mixture 7) Mix in chocolate chips and cinnamon 8) Chill the dough for a half hour 9) Scoop onto a baking sheet ( I use an ice cream scooper) and bake for around 14 minutes each batch Notes: -Watch the cookies carefully (like every 5 minutes, these cookies are very tempremental). They should be taken out when they are light golden brown (a little underdone is always better than burnt) -The cookies may spread depending on what type of baking sheet you use, so make sure you put plenty of space between them - Before you take them off of the baking sheet, give them some time so they can set and don’t break when you move them - They are actually tastiest a few hours after they come out of the oven, so you may want to plan ahead

Never thought of using bread flour for cookies. I got some recently for pizza dough and it makes a difference there so if I like it in cookies then I will never use normal flour again.

I bought cake flour too, because I didn't remember which one it is. I wonder how those would turn out.
I'm not good at any of the chemistry behind it, so I'd have to try.

I ended up sort of making the cookies beckyh gave last night since not only was I bored, but I needed something sweet and eating more frosting out of the container did not sound good for some weird reason. I say sort of make since I just made the dough. I dont care much for cooked cookies, but I love the dough, so that is what I have been eating and it is indeed good. I really like the cinnamon being in it, although I put more then a dash in so I could taste it more. I also dont have a working mixer, so I had to do it by hand like some weirdo with no electricity. The sugars did not mix to well since I got tired of mixing, but I figured it would dissolve better overnight, and it did, and I am not eating some and it is good, so good job and thanks.

I'm glad you liked them  (well the dough at least  ). Just don't go selling my recipe for millions of dollars when I have my own cookie chain. I'd come after you.

I will change the dash of cinnamon to a pinch, and all will be well.

Oh goodness... looks like I've been outsmarted.
I was thinking about maybe some almond extract or some nutmeg action too, but never got around to trying it.

hhhmm, nutmeg does go good in many things, so it should in theory be good in the cookies, but maybe without the cinnamon. At any rate how about this, when I open up a pizza place in 20 or so years I can sell your cookie recipe, but I will call them "Beckyh's Brand Old Fashioned Cookies of Goodness" and split the profits from them?

Whoa. Cookies and Pizza combine. Is there anything better than that? That's rhetorical. There isn't.

Wish I could cook. Sadly, my cooking skills are limited to boiling water, punching buttons on the microwave, and dialing Dominoes.
