well the whole christian science thing, they dont believe in doctors, they believe in the power of faith. basiclly, "if god wants me to get better, then i will. if not, then its gods will" James Hetfield from Metallica was raised in the church of christian science. His mother died of cancer becuase they didnt treat her. they just prayed.

Yeah they definitely are taking it waaaay too far!! #hypo# I think the "religion" is more of a cult than anything else.

Do they have any cases they cite as being sucessful? I mean if I was going to have people do the pray thing then I would atleast want to be comforted by them telling me all the stories of people who made it.

what they will say is "if you need proof then you dont have faith" or they will tell you some story about a guy they knew, whos mother's, sister's, best friend's uncle was healed through prayer.

Ah yes, I did not think of the whole if I need proof I dont have faith thing. I think that is what the response would be, rather then the long chain of people one, but you never know.

So, if a baby dies like the one I cited, does that mean that they didn't have enough faith? The baby certainly couldn't have. Is it a failure on their part? Or would it be a natural selection thing.

It would be that the people praying for the baby didn't have enough faith or it was God's will that the baby die... one or the other or even partially both would be the answer they would give you.

I do not discount the power of faith or the power of prayer, but it seems to me that we have brains to think with and tools to use for a reason. Reminds me of a joke I heard about a guy in a flood praying for god to save him. Someone in a boat came along and he refused the help because god was going to save him, the same thing with rescue workers in a helicopter. When he died, he asked god why he didn't save him. God said well I sent you a boat and helicopter, what more did you want?

i totally agree. if there is a god, he made us smart enough to learn medican and cure people, the same with technology. i dont buy that whole gods will thing. god gave us free will, so why rely on his?

Never bought the god's will thing either. Another thing I never bought into is the whole god fearing thing. Have seen people literally afraid to live their lives because they were so afraid of doing something against god's will. Very sad.

To move onto another regligion subject what do you think of the stange religions like Pastaferians? I know if I was going to choose a religion I would probably choose them since it would be fun. I mean come on, you have to dress up like a pirate to preach it which is just cool.

I'm highly pro-pirate, but I'm sure it's just a matter of preference.
My personal views on religion are kinda depressing. I would love to be a Catholic, but because of my politcal beliefs and the way I live my life (although I'm not a lesbian) don't fit with the church. I was raised Catholic and find the entire church experience very comforting, reassuring and sometimes inspiring, but a lot of the time nowadays, I feel like I might erupt in heathen flames before experiencing any of that.
So... I guess that leaves me in a limbo shared by many of my age and backround. We always laughed about it in highschool and called ourselves the "Ex-Catholics" but I'm sure it holds a lot of truth. There are lots of young adults who would enjoy Catholicism, but simply don't feel accepted any more. So it leaves us all in a post-Catholic, unsure sort of place.
Perhaps I'd feel better about going into a Catholic Church these days if they were all dressed like pirates and looked like Johnny Depp... intriguing.. let's forward this to the Pope.

Yes, it is the coolest religion ever. They show a direct correlation between the rise in temperatures around the globe to the decrease in pirates. The god is basically a plate of noodles, and you get to say Ramen at the end of a sermon instead of Amen. I can not say more though of course because I am not an official member, and also not wearing a pirate outfit. If you had tried to search for it and not found it then it would probably be because the official name is the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I think it is only when people are members they call themselves Pastaferians to keep things shorter. Anyway here is the site.. www.venganza.org/
