Maximus Oozenthor's Top Ten Vampiress Tips
1). Combat Art - Turn into Vampire:
- Use a combo for this. Any time you find any items with a "Turn into Vampire" bonus, keep it. On your next visit to the Master of Combat Arts put on all the bonus items and make a combo. Once you have made the combo you can put your "battle" armor back on, you will keep the combat art level in the combo. This has two effects, you get maximum vampire time and when vamp time finally runs out the combo is fully charged ready for you to turn back into a vampire instantly.
2). Combat Art - Wolf Call:
- Once again use a combo, and once again keep an item set with wolf bonus's. My normal wolf call art is level 17, but with the combo I summon a level 68 wolf. I find a high level wolf is really good at bringing down foes on the perimeter who are using ranged weapons at you.
3). Combat Art - Bats:
- Same deal again, use special items and a third combo (and a fourth if you like) for summoning bats. The best part here is that you can put four "super bats" into a combo so you don't have to wait around for the spell to charge up.
4). Combat Art - Claw Jump:
- I use this art more than any other as it has many uses:
-- It stops most foes dead in their tracks giving your minions time to do battle without taking any heat.
-- It does area damage. If you have a reasonable "Open Wounds" attribute it is quite common to have a whole group of foes bleeding to death just from repeated combat jumps.
-- It is great for wilderness travel. I find the big hold up in the wild is the stun spells that stop you dead in your tracks (Orc Shaman, etc) but with a claw jump you can still keep moving so you don't have to stop and be mobbed just because you got hit by a spell. If you can keep your "Regeneration Special Move" time low enough you can just about bunny hop your way around the map untouched. (I pretend that I am the Hulk, the damage when you land looks really cool).
5). Combat Art - Awaken Dead
- This really comes into it's own with the undead, those buggers can rise 3-4 times before they finally go down by just hitting them. My tip here is to cast an "Awaken Dead" on them the first time they go down. You get a free minion and you don't have to kill it another 2-3 times. Also nice to use on any fallen champion class foes as they can really keep the heat off you. I have never been able to raise a boss or a dragon, but the yellow demons at the end of Underworld were fun to have. Again keep your "Regeneration Special Move" time low and you will have enough minions to start a football match.
6). Bosses & Dragons
- The hardest foes. Here the main problem I find is that you get damaged very, very quickly and can end up hitting the space bar (health potion hotkey) far more often than you would like, so to slow the battle down and keep your health I use the "Blood Bite" combat art. I have yet to find a foe that the blood bite does not stop in it's tracks and if you have its level high enough you can just stand there and fill up your health with multiple bites, also it does some damage so the foe is not regenerating while you are. My usual battle sequence is to claw jump in, strike until my health is low then blood bite until my health is maxed again. The "Open Wounds" attribute is a real godsend here too, often you can bring a boss down to %10-%20 then stand back and let the open wounds finish it off (while blood biting to hold it in place of course). Also make sure it is night time as the vampire gets significant attack bonuses after dark!
7). Items - Sets
- The best armor and weapon's in the game come as sets, so any time I come across a set item I keep it. Some of the best sets the vampire can use are:
--Armor:
--- Annouk's Grace
--- Arhles T'Gaw's Net
--- Dalmar's Grandness
--- E'sal Hy-Lef's Vicissitude
--- Recundis's Defiance
--- Starion's Mysterious Echo
--- Thorwyn's Relics
--Weapon's (you will need specific skills to use):
--- Aarnum's Regalia (Sword Lore)
--- Fadalmar's Counsel (Axe Lore)
--- Orla-Aisling's Jolt (Long-Handled Weapons)
There some ranged weapon sets, but I don't use them at all. (except claw jump, I am a ranged weapon).
8). Items - Socketing
- Only ever put one valuable item into a multi socketed item as you can only ever get one thing out of it. As for the rest of the sockets load them up with your best protection amulets, you will always find better ones by the time you want to fill the sockets of another item.
9). Items - Potions
- Keep a "Boss" reserve (20-30) of large healing potions in your chest, the game wont offer you up a load of potions every time you want to do a boss/dragon battle so you have to keep your own stock.
- Keep hitting that "W" key for the potion of the mentors while doing battle, the extra experience is worth it.
- Sell the rest.
10). Sunglasses
- Go to the most south easterly island on the map (due south of Aish-Jadar in the desert) and get on the boat. On the island there is a quest to walk over some towels and kill the owners. Your reward for this is a pair "Designer Pest Control Shades" with a massive charisma bonus. If you are in a town and wanting to buy items, don your sunnies for cheaper goods / better items. As the vampiress is by far the coolest of all characters this sort of behavior will prompt you to hit "Ctrl+B" at the same time to get a screenshot and email it to all of your friends to show them how cool you are. Screenshots are stored in the "Capture" folder of your installed directory.
