Split from: RappelzHehe well I hate the combat system in the new one.... I tried it but just could not get into it! With FF I need it to have the turned based combat systems or it just doesn't seem like its FF. Not to mention they obviously don't know how to build a open attack system that works well IMO. I think that's where the gambit system comes in. That system is complimentary with the Open attack system. It let's me go through the game on my own pace. I've never had a problem with turn-based battle system and I still don't, this just gets better for me. What I like the most in the Gambit system is assigning Assault and Support Characters. That way I don't have to wait full turns before one character casts Arise or a Phoenix Down while the other beats the crap out of the boss. It's interesting specially if set up right. My favorite is One Central, One Assault and One support or One Central and Two Support characters. Still I think FFX is better in more aspects than the later FFXII. Just that FFX tends to drag when the story moves on (although the story is much better here), as it always has been with all FF series. I still vote FFVII as the best ever hands down. I heard they're making a re-make in PS3.

/me butts in on the thread.
I gave up on Final Fantasy after FF8. The only thing I like about that game was the one thing that most seemed to hate; the junctioning system.
Anyway, for me, the TWO best FF games would have to be FF3/6 and FF7.

Yay!!!!!! That is great news! I wonder when it will be done, I loved FFVII!!!
Well maybe I just didn't play enough of it to figure it out then.... on my very first trip out of town I was sent to go find something but there was a huge wolf and a few of its minions in the way and I just COULD NOT kill them. But there didn't seem to be much of anything else to do at that point to level more other than just running around that very small area and killing random things. So after about 10 tries I gave up and put the game down.
It's funny though... I discovered FF really late in the game so the only ones I ever ended up playing were FFVII and FFX. Did you guys know that VII is considered a collectors item now? I have a copy that was in mint condition but I made the huge mistake of loaning it to a former friend's teenage kid and while they had it they destroyed it. I think it is still playable but I have only done a few areas on it so far. But they cracked the case, lost the manual and got scratches in every disk... so I looked into replacing it to find out the the very minimum you can find it (and a used copy at that) is $50. Some of the copies went as high as $350 but I think those were some of the earliest releases of it.

I can still get copies of those here in Asia. Japan is very near and Philippines has International, North American and Japanese versions. International versions though, tend to suck as the English was made simple for other non-english speaking nations with no versions on their own could understand it. North American version is good but some scenes were scrapped because of the ESRB rating before (now I think it's all the same). Good luck with the Japanese version ;D
I still have my FFVII for PC and for PS1. I already gave away my PS1, but kept some classic games. I have a new PS2 because the old one I bought when it first came out, broke, and I got a refund. I didn't get enough time to play when I was in college so I didn't get to buy a new one till the slim line came out. Now I have a PS3 and I am doubting if I will have the time to sit down and play nice on it. My wife's having a blast with it though LOL Mostly I bought it, believe it or not, is because I am still hoping they do a rendition of some classic games into new generation consoles. Plus heavenly sword LOL
I think that mission is in Giza Plains where 2 werewolves are there, impossible to beat on early levels especially if you rushed going there. Later they will be cheese. Though if it's your first mission, that could be the Tyrant in your path, a T-rex type of monster surrounded (but not necessarily his minions) by some orange wolves of sort. I had the unfortunate chance of running head on with it too and lost. FFXII takes some getting used to. About 2 hours max learning curve. Once you get the hang of it, it works for your benefit because a good Gambit system set up makes you harder (not impossible) to defeat even with boss fights. The biggest plus for me is if I have 6 in the group with 3 active members, I can like "tag" other inactive members if one get's knocked out without waiting a full turn to replace the fallen member of the party. It's just so dynamic that I am loving it. It's actually the first time I've played FF series with much enthusiasm. FFIX disappointed me. FFVIII was ok, not bad but not a blockbuster for me, love the love story though.

Sadly, the FFVII remake is just a rumour. Square-Enix has stated (many times) that they have no plans for a FFVII remake on PS3, although they are planning to develop more FF games in the future.
Sorry to burst bubbles.
There are some fan-made sequels out there, I can try to track down links if anyone is interested.

I think they made an official sequel, but it was in a CG movie, the Advent Children movie? Still I am hopeful that they will make a remake. Square insists that they will not make one. But who are they trying to please anyway? Themselves? or their fans? Fan pressure can be a big factor in making some shelved ideas come to life, and popular demand has made some retired celebrities perform one last time. And I am still waiting for that damn love triangle between Aeris, Cloud and Tifa to get resolved! For the love of grrrrr Cloud! You have a brunette already! Stop yearning the spiritual red head! geek moment....
