Okay I just finished reading the series... all 7 books. There are a few things I need to comment on though...
First off was the order they are in is sooo weird...
He wrote them and published them in this order:
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe- 1950
Prince Caspian- 1951
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader- 1952
The Silver Chair- 1953
The Horse and His Boy- 1954
The Magician's Nephew- 1955
The Last Battle- 1956
But he intends them to be read in this order:
The Magician's Nephew
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Horse and His Boy
Prince Caspian
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The Silver Chair
The Last Battle
So anyway if you get older copies of the series or by the looks of it (since they started with The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe) watch the movies you will get the story all out of order. Like half the series was written as an afterthought. I read them all in the way he meant them to be read, that is... how he decided the order SHOULD be AFTER he was done writing them all, and I can't image being able to understand what is going on if you read them in the original order. Yes each book is about a different time period in Narnia but all of the main characters are tied into one another and most came back to Narnia on more than one occasion so if you read them out of order than it's like someone is telling you a story and telling the middle then the beginning then some more in the middle then some of the end then more middle and then concluding it... like it will make any sense in the end!!
Okay so anyway the other thing I noticed was... though it is a wonderful children's fantasy and I enjoyed it immensely is seems a bit religious. There are just some small references throughout the book that make me feel like Narnia was supposed to be representing Heaven and the "god" of Narnia, the lion Aslan, was supposed to represent the Christian God and one part in the book sounded an awful lot like the Garden of Eden. Strange... I mean it wasn't an overwhelming part of the book... a lot of people might never even notice it or make the connection, but I did.
