I have decided to come in and investigate this phenomenon known as "ProBoards". So far, I like this forum, #happy# though I reserve judgement on the host. #winking#
I teach Computer Basics to mature students at a local community center and am always on the look out for resources I can use to "expose" them to the Internet in a safe way. At one time I was using a free host to teach them the basics of creating a website. The final product ended up with about a 1 inch border all around their "site" that contained ads from the free host. #sick#
Needless to say, I don't go there any more. In fact, I spent a considerable amount of my own money setting up my own Website Builder for my students. Now they can build their own 6 page website with no ads whatsoever. #dance#
Where is this great site? Nope, not interested in having it inundated by everyone. I use my site primarily for teaching and, while I don't mind new users who are not my students, I try to be extremely selective. I may post my URL at a later date ... after I've gotten to know you a bit better. #winking#

Hmm. There is no way to send Private Messages with this software?
Having extra smilies is good, I just prefer to view them as icons rather than as text.
Check out my forum to see how they look when displayed as a group of icons. In fact, my forum is currently in a vigin state. I recently overwrote all mods when I updated to the latest version. I had made so many Mods I had no idea what was what, so decided to start fresh and leave out most of the mods I had previously added.

Yeah that makes sense as far as restarting your forum rather than trying to work around what you already changed.
You can see images... if you click the view all smilies link that is under the scroll menu a little window will pop up that shows you all the images #happy#
We do have a pm function.... it works the same as at DaGirl's but I got rid of the "welcome you have x PMs" message and instead have a "new pm" and "no new pm" button in the toobar. I though it would look better that way.

... You can see images... if you click the view all smilies link that is under the scroll menu a little window will pop up that shows you all the images #happy# Ah, yes that is somewhat better but I still like having a base set of 20 icons always showing. When I click on "View more Emoticons" in my reply window, I can then see the 300+ emoticons I've installed. We do have a pm function.... it works the same as at DaGirl's but I got rid of the "welcome you have x PMs" message and instead have a "new pm" and "no new pm" button in the toobar. I though it would look better that way. TY, I remember seeing it before too, just too ignorant to remember what I've seen! #duncehat#

NP, I looked at your site.... I love the idea and all the info....... but for my personal tastes the appearance is a bit plain. Ohhh, when you get a little more used to my forum could you tell me the how the features differ between my forum and yours? It's hard to get a feel for other forum programs unless you use them for a bit.

... It's hard to get a feel for other forum programs unless you use them for a bit. Which is why I'm in here using your forum. It's "free" except for the ad that appears at the top of the forum that you have no control over (and I cannot see ;D ) so, if it appears easy enough to use, I may suggest it to some of my students. With phpBB you need a host of some kind. I pay about $100/year for my hosting but most of my students cannot even afford an ISP, much less a host that would allow them to install a forum.

Wow, now I am definitely not getting phpBB forum.... I don't need one enough to have to pay for the damn thing.

... I don't need one enough to have to pay for the damn thing. phpBB is free software, it's the hosting I pay for. I'm sure if you can find a suitable free host, one that offers at least one MySQL database, phpBB would run quite well. You may have to run their version though ... with ads ...

Yeah and that would stink... having to contend with all the ads.
