I saw it on friday and have to say its overall a good movie. I had to ignore a bunch of things done that were not historically accurate, but I figure most people dont have the background knowledege I do on the subject so that wont be a problem and it will be even more enjoyable. It is rather bloody as well though, so some people might not like that, but its a weird kind of bloody since its kind of fake looking, but effective for the movie style which is weird like Sin City before it.

I loved the movie. I agree that some historical points were sacrificed to (I think) effectively appeal to the mass media. It delivered fine though, and those who did not know the infamous "Come Get Them" battlecry-taunt of King Leonidas, well now they will all know where it first came from. The gore can be a little too much for some people to take. A tender moment between a couple there can also be somewhat awkward though I think it was artistically done. The a rough encounter by the queen though may not be, though it was never fully depicted to allow the movie-goers to conclude it on their own. I also loved the way politics and war played their own tennis. The movie showed how military training and discipline can be very important in a war. Trampling an enemy with sheer number will simply not do for a well prepared foe. I hope they make a strategical game out of it. Or a game inspired by 300 because a game based on the movie or history would have a predictable and linear outcome. I also loved the way they used their shields and spears. Before this movie, I think the only spear I appreciated was the Spear of Lu Bu I recommend this movie to those who seek the realism of war in a somewhat fantasy portrayal. I left the cinema very, very, very satisfied and I would definitely own this movie on BR when it comes out. Two thumbs way up.

I was suprised at the time that the "Come and get them" comment was in english and not "Molon Lave", but then I realized that had they spoken it in Greek pronunciation that most people would not have gotten it, although I do far prefer to say it in Greek and it is the only Greek I know. Even with the aspects changed to make it better for the media I do feel that even then one thing should not have been done and that was Leionidas talking to Ephialtes and not letting him join with him because he would not be able to work in the Phalanx and how important that unit was. I think they should have left that part out since the fighting while in the Phalanx was very minimal and most of the time focused on individuals. I know that was done to make the movie more interesting, but it seems rather pointless to say how important it is but not use it much. Also they never really used the repaired wall that I can remember.

The wall was not even as steadfast as it could be in history. I think they even collapsed much of the corpses that lay with the foundation. Though the wall stood still in the end. Yes it's a bit disappointing to see some historical points, even pivotal moments, were not used or portrayed properly. Still I was not as mad as I was with this film than I was with the last Harry Potter film. The last Harry Potter film strayed too far, and clung too much (in my oppinion) on the cinematic part, than the book part. Atleast 300 was not a sore to look at. Not everybody can stomach the visuals, but it's a really good movie. It really got me hooked on reading more about this battle, and now that you're saying a whole lot more about it, I'm rummaging in my history books for anything good or accurate about it hmm... and by saying hooked, it means I might see it again this next Saturday.

Well the body wall was used properly, but the original stone wall they rebuilt is the one I was taking about since it was only showed once when they were fixing it and using the bodies of the Persian scouts. Only major thing I wish they would have changed was near the end where the remaining Spartans finally die. They fell to easily in my opinion and also compared to the historically accurate version. They fought off the Persians three times before the arrow attack on the final day, but Leonidas was also dead by this point so since that was changed is why I assume it was changed at the end, but still in the rest of the movie they are annihilating everything and then fall really fast in the end.

Come to think of it, they had a solid tent of shields in the last part of the movie. Even if they hollowed in on that, they could have fought better. Maybe it added to the drama. We got the same results in the end. Perhaps I'll just respect the artistic point of view of the director and the people who made the movie possible. It's uniqueness really had an appeal, for even those who did not know the Spartan's history. I was also expecting Leonidas to die before the rest of the spartans did, but in this movie he was the last man standing. Oh well, it's not a total loss. Hell it's not even a bad movie. It's not perfect, but I think you'll agree that 300 was not a bad interpretation of history.
