Okay I have a question for you guys just for fun....
If vampires DID exist which version of them do you think would be the most accurate?
Also if you were going to be a vampire which version would you want to be?

I like the more modern kinds. Not being able to go out in the day, bting people to turn them and all that. I would want to be one that can look human, or transform into a bat like creature, but not an actual bat. If anybody has seen the new Underworld movie then being like Marcus is what I am talking about.

I like the kind that can't go out during the day, can't be seen in mirrors, can turn into a bat, etc. Not sure which kind that is, but. Also kind of like the old Bela Lugosi mesmerising, sleeping in coffins thing, too. Can remember rushing home from school to catch Dark Shadows on TV. The John Carpenter's vampire thing was just too much for me. Didn't like it much. Didn't really like the Blade thing much either. Too much blood I guess.

The two styles of vampires that I like the best are both from books and are a bit similar but with some differences.
The first is Anne Rice's vampires... they are more of a Romantic being, although they do kill for blood. They can't go out in the sun, but the rest of the myths are false. I mean obviously if you cut off their heads or burn them completely they will die. But garlic and stuff have no effect. The vampires that are VERY old can go in the sun though they can't think right and will get burnt, but its more like a really bad sunburn rather than instant death, but ones this old are very rare. They are in love with the arts particularly painting and music. They can rule over humans minds, have super strength and super speed, they also can fly.
The second are Michael Romkey's vampires. They as well are very romantic and in love with the arts. The good ones anyway, and they make up the Illuminati or work for the Illuminati. They have mastered meditation and the whole mind over matter concept. They can control humans minds, are very strong and fast, and are super genius'. They have mastered going in the sun with no ill effect to themselves and can rule over humans and some vampires minds so thoroughly that they can become invisible among many other things. They are telepathic, telekinetic and can levitate nearly to the point of flying but not quite. They try to better humans lives while remaining in the shadows and they don't kill to feed as they only require about a cup of blood every two weeks. There are a bad faction of vampires that do kill and dominate however but they are weak and have not mastered their own minds enough to do more than parlor tricks, they cannot go in the sun for instance.

Read a book where the vampires were similar to Michael Romkey's. They basically protected humans and were collectors of art and antiquities and were historians. They did have to keep some soil from their homeland around, but didn't necessarily have to have human blood, it was just preferred by some. In some ways, it made one want to believe in them.

That is how I feel about Romkey.... I mean there is the bad group that has some of the most heinous killers in history as part of it's group.... but the Illuminati and the good side has some of the best minds of our history.
Just some examples for you...
Bad Vampires: John Wilkes Booth (the guy who assinated Lincoln), Jack the Ripper, Von Baden (Nazi General), Cesar Borgia (Russian tyrant)
Good Vampires: Mozart, Rasputin, Da Vinci, Tatiana Romanov (Russian Princess, Anastasia's sister)
The idea is mostly that the Illumiati is in love with the arts and with great intelligence and so the greatest of the greats are transformed (with their permission only) in order to preserve their genius for as long as posssible. They are not quite immortal but they age so slowly that it nearly counts. The problem is that even the greatest eventually grow tired of life and so let themselves die (than can do this with just a thought if it is strong enough), so anyway they don't really know the true life span of themselves because no vampire has chosen to live for more than 2,000 years. The stories are mostly about the fight between the good side and the bad, but also has many VERY interesting mini-stories within them that are some of the vampires versions of their lives as humans and vampires, one of which was Rasputin's tale.

I suspect that Vampires are an alien life form co-exsisting and living a symboitic relationship with humans. There blood containd a type of antigen,, deadly to humans, so if infected they cease to be human but take on the traits of their hosts,,, Vampires,,, this is seen at a cellular level in infections,, of not only trees, plants and animals.
In general they are typcially: immortal.. to an extent, super human in physical and mental abilities, can not sucessfully co-habitate or copulate,, either with humans or themselves,,, A species of alien living and preying on their live stock humans.
Ann Rice tryed to protray Vampires as the fallen angels of G-d, and in her next to last book Memnoch the devil share her beliefs,,, very much like Taylor Caldwell's ScrewTape letters. where Satan pleads his case ,,, to Micheal the archangle, against G-d.. claiming to be an advocate for humanity,,, I see them as a race ,,alien from humanity and not angelic,, just another species living on earth,,

This is an old thread, but I'm going to reply anyway; because I've had a vampire "fetish" for as long as I can remember. Maybe because I'm a Hallowe'en-born Scorpio; I don't know.
If they did exist, I think the ancient East-European version would be most correct-vampires as near mindless creatures with limited motor functions, seeking only to slake a never-ending thirst.
But, If I could be one, I have to agree that Anne Rice's vampires are great, as are Romkey's. But the best modern version, I think, is in Laurell K. Hamilton's books. Much like Rice's, but seemingly more human, less cold. If you like the genre, and haven't read her, I highly recommend her.

Gasp! another LKH fan! so good to see someone who appreciates good books. and you are right. LKH's vamps show a little more emotion and are a little more complex charactor wise. as far as vampires go, i think psycic vamps are the most possible. people who feed of the energy, not the blood of others. they basicly feed of the aura of people, their mental energy. I have been accused of this. if its true, i dont know i did it, lol. there are so many legends of vampires from every country in the world, that i have doubts that they exsist or did exsist at some point in time, just like dragons. from totally non-human looking vampires to the succubus (psycic vampire that feeds of sexual energy) to the very human looking vampires that rise from the dead. all the folk lore is very interesting. and if you are interested in learning more about all the different kinds of vamps, and vamps through history i suggest picking up the book " The Vampire Book, The Encyclopedia of the Undead". its hard to find, but you may be able to pick it up on Amazon.com. its a great book for those who want to know the nature of vamps. Or "The Science of Vampires" by Katherine Ramsland Ph.D, or "Vampires" by Konstantinos. All great books on the history, legend, myth and science behind vampires.

Have often wondered if some of the legends didn't come from energy vampires. Have met several people who can drain another's energy very quickly. It almost feels as if they drain the life out of you.
