Okay, got another rant.
A while back, a member joined who made fun of the homeless (which pissed me off).
Well, I was out walking recently and saw someone on the island in the middle of the road with a cardboard sign. He was homeless, and asking passing drivers for money.
One driver started yelling at him. "Why don't you get a job, instead of leeching off decent people?"
Well what do you know. There are Canadians who are a**es. :Scowl:
Now, I will admit that I do find it a bit annoying to be hassled for money, but that's just out of line. Anyone with some sense of the big picture would know that we have a 5% unemployment rate. I would say by looking at this poor soul, that he was at the bottom 5% of the ranking of employability. I don't think he was mentally ill or incapacitated, but he did seem like the kind of poor soul that could not get hired. It is hard to tell from looks, though (and you shouldn't judge by appearances, anyways).
As I mentioned, there is approximately a 5% unemployment rate, so even if this guy could get a job, there would just be someone else in the same position.
Even if the driver had a bad day at work, or was sick of being hassled for money, why take it out on this guy?
I guess I don't really have a point or focus here, I'm a little blinded by rage right now. But at least I feel better for sharing.
On the plus side, in my sarcastic consideration of how often I've seen someone do something ignorant, I decided on a title for myself. I am hereby "The Seeker of Ignorance" (it probably goes without saying this is basically a do-nothing job). I'm sure I'll come up with a much better version later, but for now this is what I will call myself.
