I saw a signature on another forum that read something like
"you are not your post count, you are not your bandwidth, you are not your graphics card, you are not your clock speed, you are not your mods" which I agree with.
I, personally, do not care what other people's systems are set up like.
(and if I wanted to participate in this sort of thing, all I have to do is say 'I am a Unix/Linux user' and I've got all Windows systems beat in speed and security; to say nothing of functionality)
Don't get me wrong. You want to be proud of your new system and brag, go right ahead. But I reserve the right to be apathetic.
Maybe Wolfe should add 'rant' to the list of moods ...
I figured this might turn into a rant of some sort, so I would be safe and move it here first.....
Well it is bragging, there is no way around it, that is the entire reason people do it. Normally I do not like it either, but when I brought up the e-penis thing randomly in the adult section everybody liked it, so I figured I would start it. I will also agree with you that Unix/Linux is faster, I think it was only like a few weeks ago that one of the benchmarks was done on the PS3 and it annihilated any other computer out there and I believe the PS3 uses a Unix variant. I would probably use it myself if the support for all things I used would be there. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that most things either do not, or are emulated to run under Linux/unix/Etc, but I have also not payed attention to what goes on there for some time. The only thing I am going to disagree with is when you say it is more secure. Now I know you could show me numbers that would support your stance, but you have to think about where those numbers come from and how they basically mean nothing. The same goes really for any software out there, I am going to include Firefox here as well since wolfe always wants me to change from IE. While less used programs and OS's seem to be more stable, they are not in reality. Before people make the claims that they are they have to think like a hacker with malintent. You are making a program of some sort to harm people, are you going to want to harm users who only represent less then 10 percent of the market, or go for the big monopoly? If all the people out there who do this were to focus on a smaller OS or web browser they would be able to exploit them much faster then they will find another hole in IE or Windows, but again since they want to harm as much as possible they wont bother with it. If you look at Firefox it used to be that it was very stable, and rarely updated, but now that is has gained in popularity you see many more security updates being released, and that will only grow if the programs popularity grows. The same actually applies to me right now. I am one of the few using Vista and as a result I am very happy with the fact that almost nobody is bothering to make malware for it since the market is still XP dominated. I have not had a single BSOD with Vista in the 2 months I have used it and only like a 10th of the spyware. But I know this will change once more and more people get Vista. Anyway, that us just my thoughts so feel free to point out illogical areas of it since the more people do the more I will be able to either make my defense stronger, or realize I was in error.

I don't mean to insult you, Area, but I really hate it when people post their specs online. It seems too close to bragging, and I hate bragging. I saw a signature on another forum that read something like
