Movie mistake: Families get horror film
Sat Apr 7, 6:59 AM ET
HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. - An audience expecting to watch a family film was stunned to get an glimpse of a horror movie, which left some parents shaken and the theater chain apologizing for the movie mix-up.
The moviegoers were expecting to see "The Last Mimzy," the PG-rated tale of a brother and sister who discover a mysterious box of toys and become endowed with superhuman powers to help preserve humanity's future.
Instead, the crowd saw the opening scene of "The Hills Have Eyes 2," the R-rated sequel to a recent remake of a 1977 horror classic by the genre's renowned director, Wes Craven. The film centers on National Guard troops who stumble on a clan of mutant cannibals and starts with a chained woman giving birth to a mutant.
"There were kids that were crying, there were people trying to cover the kids' eyes, they were caught off guard," said Anthony Rasco, who was in the audience when the scene was unexpectedly shown Thursday in one of the theaters at the Island 16 multiplex.
Another patron said the episode had left his 3-year-old son with lingering, and unsettling, questions.
"My wife is eight months pregnant, and he's been asking, 'Is that what mommy's going to have?'" said Frank Doll, 31, of Mastic.
Theater staffers soon stopped the movie, gave the patrons free ticket vouchers, and started "The Last Mimzy" about a half-hour late, according to parents.
National Amusements Inc., which operates the Island 16 and about 1,500 other movie screens in the United States and elsewhere, expressed "deepest apologies" in a statement Friday.
"We are working with our theater's managers to correct this situation and ensure that it does not happen again," said the statement from the company, based in Dedham, Mass.

Oh jeez!!!! That is just one more reason for me not to go to the theater... I already hardly ever go cause I think the price is ridiculous for both the tickets and the snacks. They also have a rule that you cannot even bring your own soda or bottle of water in with you now so they pretty much FORCE you to pay their ridiculous prices. But this is just ridiculous!! Especially seeing how I am an adult and I already know I WILL NOT be watching that movie cause it is too creepy for me to handle.

Of all the movies to mix it up with! Oh my GOD! I hope whoever did it was fired. Alot! Many Many times over.... Its not one I care to watch myself! The last time we went was last summer to see Pirates of the Caribbean, before that was back in the early 90's when it was 5$ a person. Oh and with the drinks, Cause I have my son I always bring a juice pouch or box anyway. Just hide it in my bag, But I do get the popcorn.

We use to go a lot because student discount for our movie theaters use to be down to $6. The prices were raised, students get in for $8. Now we only go to the free on campus cinema, and sometimes we go to the dollar theater. I usually don't buy anything, but Becky tends to buy a huge, overpriced soda. The on campus cinema has relatively cheap food though, I guess they figure students are poor. I think large popcorn and large soda is $4 total.... its reasonable. If you went to an actual theater the tickets would be $16 total and $6 for medium popcorn and soda.

Well let's see... movie tickets here are $8.50 each and if I remember correctly it is something like $3.50 for the large soda and $4 for the popcorn. Oh and a candy bar that I can get at the grocery for 75 cents is $1.50 at the theater.

I am once again in the minority here. I love movies, so I love to goto the theatres and do not care about the price. Only thing I dont like is to go alone, which is weird when you think about it since its not like you talk durring the movie, but that is the only reason I do not go as much as I want since I can not find somebody to go with me like I want to do, which could probably be anywhere between 50-75% of movies that come out. Anyway considering how many theatres and movies are shown I am suprised things like this do not happen often. I dont think anybody should have been fired for this unless they did the switch on purpose. I want to see both of the movies listed here actually. The Mimzy one looks like it might be sort of similar to the Explorers movie I liked as a kid, and I like horror movies so I want to see Hills 2. I saw the first one and it is one of the only recent horror movies that actually pissed me off because the bad guys were so evil. I still have to watch the original, but I think its the same story. I did watch the old Hills 2 though the other day and I am glad they did not do a remake of that one since it was terrible. It was about a bunch of stupid dirt biker kids in an old school bus going to a competion and they randomly decide its a good idea to take their bus off roading and of course they get a hole in their gas tank so they are stranded, but they find a random house, which is of course where the mutants live. One of the people with the actual group was even one of the people from the first movie too, which I thought was weird.

I hate overpriced movies, but really enjoy them when someone else pays. And I only get the super sized soda so I can make a lot of people mad when I walk across the aisle to pee 3 times in one film.
I wanted to see the last Mimzy too. But I'm kinda over horror movies these days, so I wouldn't be thrilled about The Hills2. They all just seem to be gory nasty stuff and very little genuinely scary stuff. Like all the Saw movies, I saw them but didn't really enjoy it much.

I know Explorers! We owned a car or two we named the Rolls Canarly.
oh and always wanted to get an old tilt a whirl car to build the spaceship too!
If the movie is something really special we go, Like Pirates 3 coming soon as well as Transformers. But for the most part most movies lately have been ones I can wait to see on ppv or the movies channels.

The student cinema we have on campus is pretty awesome. Sometimes we get movies before they are released to theaters. For instance, we saw Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny just this last year. There are about 3-4 per semester but it's hard to get in... you have to get a prepass and show up 2 hours early to get in.
The regular movies shown there range from very old to still in theaters movies... and the dollar theater gets all the movies before they hit DVD after being released from theaters.. so I'd suggest keeping an eye out for dollar theater movies if you happen to miss out on it the first time around. Not all dollar theaters are bad...

Yeah, I tend to do that now too since I cant find anybody to go with. So the big movies I see in the theatres and then since I pay for like 30 movie channels I just watch the others on there a year or so after their release. For me though The Simpsons movie is the movie I want to see the most. It will probably be the first movie I have ever wanted to camp out to see too. I have done the wait in line for hours thing so far for some of the LOTR and Star Wars movies, but this one should be enough to make me want to give up my life temporarily to see.

LOL!!
Well I am strange I can't handle movies with gore and guts and torture (mostly) and murderers and all that... I actually like the SAW movies cause of all the seriously creative deaths.... but I CANNOT handle movies with really scary monsters, mutants of ghosts. I like a lot of films with ghosts but there are some that it is just too scary. Like The Grudge... something about that little boy was soooo scary. I mean he was soo young and he meowed and when he did his mouth stretched like crazy... just creepy.

Okay I hit post then realized I should have told you a crazy story....
So I am STILL scared of that little boy, but just a few days after watching The Grudge for the first time my daughter had a nightmare and came to the side of my bed. It was sooo similar with her height and the height of the bed to a scene in the movie and it was too dark to see her face. So I am so groggy from sleep I nearly scream in fright... thank god I was able to control myself cause I think it would have scarred her for life. I felt soo bad for just almost screaming... I mean who is afraid of their own child?
