Well, nothing like Another (bleep)ing Life Experience to help keep things in perspective.
I was rounding down my Sacred time for the day, in light of previously-scheduled plans for the evening, when I realized that a dress I wanted to lend to my best friend still smelled of smoke from when my younger sister borrowed it. Originally, I figured passing it through some perfume might help, but decided "screw this--she deserves better." So I go to do a load of laundry...and include a few other things that needed to be washed.
Including the pillows, which haven't looked the same since my last camping trip in Denver. And also something else, which will remain nameless to spare what precious little dignity I have.
The load with the clothes goes smoothly; they get into the dryer well before I have to leave, so they're done in time. Not so with the other...which, despite my efforts in timing to prevent such, has backed up and kept the drum flooded. Pulling out pillows feels like I'm trying to lift an overweight small child who is struggling. Drying them takes time, and looking at the water as it drains out into the secondary lake reminds me of all the times we've had to walk our car through flooded streets, thanks to the engine going out.
This is not the first time I've had a slight glimpse into the life of a flood survivor. Between the water heater and my upstairs neighbor, it appears the water kami have something against me.
In parting, I will say this much: LEAVE ME ALONE! Towels are not a renewable resource, and I would MUCH rather not use the nice, soft placemats we just got--though they seem like they'll do the job well enough.
