Sooo guess what? The new computer is dead already! #curse# Alucard thinks that the video card blew. The new computer kept rebooting on its own... Alucard says that he watched the surge protector one time and the light on it flashed. So his assumption is that there must be some sort of meter that limits the amount of power that can enter each apartment building at one time, and since the computer uses a LOT of power with 2 power supplies he thinks it caused the electricity to surge... causing the reboots. Well his guess is that all the rebooting burnt out the video card. So now we need to find out for sure and if it is blow send it back to the manufacturer under the warranty and get a new one. ARGHHHH! Who knows how long that will take. THEN we will have to get a small generator for the computer so if the power surges it will just temporarily run on the generator instead of rebooting. Man! And I JUST started being able to play Sacred again and I also started playing Guild Wars like 2 days ago!!!!! I HATE COMPUTERS, or I should say they hate me! So now I am back to the SUPER OLD, SUPER SLOW Compaq that we were using temporarily while Alucard built the computer.

You should ask the apt manager about the possibility of power being limited. I would think they would not care about the need for power since the electric company gets more money that way, unless of course you dont have to pay for power there, then I could see there being a limit. It would seem odd that the power would be to much, even with two powersupplies. Typically power supplies dont go above 650 watts each, so even if you had two at that and it is 1300 watts, that is still less power then a typical microwave. I think I had said something a while back about getting a line conditioner which is a special kind of surge protector that can help clean up what is called "dirty power", like if your complex is old then you might have that problem.

Well actually the apartment complex was only built 4-5 yrs ago... and yes electricity is included in the rent so.... I can totally see them limiting it. I am not sure if they limit the power or whether they just have really crappy wiring, but now that I think about it there has been a few times where the power went out for a split second, but that was enough to reset my alarm clock since it doesn't have a battery as backup for power failure.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. Well if it helps at all, my guru Stacy has sent stuff back like that and it didn't take them long at all to send the new part. But at this point any wait is too long I suppose.

Well if your power likes to fluctuate like that then you should get one of the backup power supplies. When the power goes off, even for a split second they are supposed to kick in, and can give you like 20 minutes of power, which is enough to save and shut down if it is a prolonged outage.

Wow okay... false alarm. The computer wouldn't boot up so Alucard originally thought it was the video card that blown... but when he opened up the computer there was no burn marks or anything... so he did some sort of research on the net and tried resetting the bios (sp?). Well that work!!! #yay# I guess something in the bios just screwed up which interfered with the boot up process. So I am back on the new computer again. Thank the gods!!

Yeah that does tend to happen. You might want him to check the battery on the motherboard though. It is supposed to keep all the information intact which is why you dont loose the settings there when you shut the computer off, so if it got messed up from your random power there then the battery could be dead or dying.

Update on my infamous computer curse... so as many of you knew I was having some computer problems because some of the RAM had blown and was screwing the whole computer up causing tons of reboots and such... well just a day or two before the RAM arrived the motherboard gave out... hence my long absence. But I went out today and bought what I have always wanted... my very own laptop! So Alucard will fix the desktop soon and we will each have our own computer. Hopefully my curse won't extend to my new laptop and Alucard and and I will get to do something for the first time that we have always wanted... we'll get to play MP game TOGETHER #yay#
