I was curious if there is a compilation of serious game issues all new players to Sacred might benefit from being aware of. Or even just a list of 'nice to know' stuff that might frustrate someone... I'll list every example of this sort of thing that I know here as a start, in case there isn't.
To the best of my knowledge all of these issues exist with the latest version (2.28), however some players have used these abilities without ever experiencing the problem themselves... feel free to try your luck, if you can live with the consequences if you're unlucky!
PROBLEMATIC COMBAT ARTS
Gladiator
Stomping Jump: Some players suggest this Combat Art has a tiny chance to break the Gladiator, rendering him unable to pick up items or use Combat Arts. The problem is permanent and can't be fixed, forcing the player to start a new character.
Seraphim
Combat Jump: Some players suggest this Combat Art has a tiny chance to break the Seraphim, rendering her unable to pick up items or use Combat Arts. The problem is permanent and can't be fixed, forcing the player to start a new character.
Dwarf
Mortar Grenade: Mortar Grenade can cause unsettling visual glitches in the terrain and crash the game. Though I have never seen it cause graphics problems myself, I have used it and witnessed it crash Sacred in a multiplayer game when I was hosting; it only crashed me, but being the host it did kick out the other player to the game menu. If the crashing behaves like Vehemence, though, it could randomly other players out of your game as well.
Vehemence: Vehemence can sometimes crash Sacred. In multiplayer, anyone present has a chance of crashing to their desktop, not just yourself. Use at your own risk... it seems a bit moody, sometimes it works fine for awhile, other times it causes crashes repeatedly.
Also, in a forum somewhere I saw one player claim that Vehemence may be bugged in multiplayer in a way that the Dwarf can hit themselves with it; if true, it would likely be an issue that would only affect clients, as I never experienced it as a host.
PROBLEMATIC QUESTS
Riddle in the Desert: The following quests will be uncompleteable if you complete this quest before any of them:
*Where is the Blacksmith?
*Whispers in the Wind
*The Unknown Warrior
*The Painting
GENERAL CLARIFICATIONS
Dual Wielding: Does not work on horseback. Whenever you have a weapon in both hands, bonuses from all weapon specific lores (Axe Lore, Sword Lore, etc.) are IGNORED and only the bonus from Dual Wielding applies.
Riding: In a nutshell, other than improving the horse's Charge ability, Riding does nothing for you but enable you to ride 2 types of Heavy War horse, use a few unique/set saddles you couldn't otherwise, and turn the Attack penalty suffered while riding into an Attack bonus eventually. You can still ride horses later in the game, say Gold difficulty, that require 0 Riding, so don't be given the misimpression that you can't use horses for long without it. Some people imply better horses yield better resistances, but this seems to be false; as best I can tell, no horse gives you resistance bonuses, these come ONLY from the bridle or saddle that you have chosen to equip them with. Also, the 'Resistance with Horse' display is bugged; it should read 'Your Current Resistances' because it seems to display the exact same information your character info does; your resistances when you're not on the horse, and your resistances + any bonus from saddle/bridle when you are on the horse.
Before you take Riding, if you're taking it merely to get a better Attack or Health stat, I encourage you to compare other skills against it if they are available, such as Agility (+% to Attack and Defense) or Constitution (+% Max health and regeneration), which may not only yield higher returns for each skill point but ALWAYS apply to your character; the benefit of the Riding skill only applies when you are mounted, and you can't take your mount everywhere.
If there is no compendium of this type of info, feel free to add any more important points or problems you know about - the more, the merrier!
1/25/13: Updated Vehemence for crashing Sacred after experiencing it mid-swing at least 6 times.
