Hello Den-izens,
I came across a post in my journey online searching for information on Sacred that may be of interest to some of you; as of THIS post the information is about a year old, and I have no interest in playing on the server, so I cannot verify that the information is correct. But perhaps one of you might like to try and report back.

The Open Multiplayer server is not closed. They changed the server information.
To access the open lobby server you need to change the line in your "settings.cfg" file from
NETWORK_LOBBY : sacredeng.ascaron-net.com to:
NETWORK_LOBBY : 93.190.65.233
Then make sure the following ports are open:
UPD/TCP 2005-2010
UPD/TCP 7064 (Plus)
UPD/TCP 7066 (Underworld)
To access the open lobby server you need to change the line in your "settings.cfg" file from
NETWORK_LOBBY : sacredeng.ascaron-net.com to:
NETWORK_LOBBY : 93.190.65.233
Then make sure the following ports are open:
UPD/TCP 2005-2010
UPD/TCP 7064 (Plus)
