I'm just popping in to say thanks for still keeping up the site. Over the years, I've always played Sacred off an on when I had time to kill, and I'm still playing. Only, I hadn't been to the Underworld for ages until recently, and I found I'd actually forgotten most of the SP quests down there. So, thanks again for maintaining this site. What I can offer the community is mostly trivia stuff, I guess, like references that aren't apparent unless you're familiar with Germany, or small things like translation errors. (The Arachnophobia quest should say 'Stones, side without heart, no stones, side with heart', for instance. It simply means to keep right / left.) Stuff like that.

You are quite welcome Hey, that's cool.... care to share any other interesting trivia/reference stuff with us? I love to know the origins of things and all the hidden easter eggs... even if they don't actually make up a quest or anything.

Where to start, when almost the entire game is one gigantic leg-pull? Oh, I know: 'Death to the Ogre Referee' (Tod dem Schiedsoger). It refers to the German Football Scandal of 2005. The ogre referee is called 'Oddhäuser', a hint at one of the guilty parties in that series of incidents, and Chairman Myerfield (Vorsitzender Meierfeld) is none other than Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, president of the German Football Union at the time. In the German version, after you've finished the quest, your character's quest log will say that they didn't accept a ' Zwanziger ("a twenty" = € 20 note)' that the chairman offered them on top of their quest reward. Did you have anything particular in mind, or should I just ramble on with whatever comes to mind as I play along? Is Karl Ranseier's grave (in the Sakkara district of Mystdale) in the English version, too? Edit: I forgot to mention: You can play UW with the old / golden interface from Plus, all you need to do is unpack the textures and rename them.

Neat! I wondered what was up with the random soccer/football field Ummm, I dunno if he is or not actually. Someday, when I get a computer that will run Underworld again, I should really go through the game and take note of every grave message throughout and see if we can figure out what all of them refer to... Yeah keep going!! Actually, yah know what? We should start a new thread in the Underworld Misc Game Info section of the forum that is just for easter egg references! Then whenever you have time (or anyone else that spots one) has time or comes across a new one they can be added to the thread!

Okay. I'll go ahead and take some pictures over next few days, and see what I can come up with. Another edit: I found the new trivia thread but I can't seem to reply to it, there's no reply button showing. Odd häuser. Edit edit: Ah, I see. I'll try to make sure to post the next titbit in a quotable format.

Yes, the button's there now, thanks. Now I'm thinking about how to explain about Karl Ranseier without explaining too much so that the funniness of the reference still come across. I was an early Sacred player, and I hadn't had any sort of warning when I came across that grave out of the blue. I remember laughing so loud my neighbours mentioned it.
*Off to scour the plains of Ancaria while the weekend lasts*

Thank you both. I had to restore a lot of backups last weekend, so I had no time to play. I finally remembered where Rincewind is buried, and took a detour from spider hunting yesterday. Edit: I'm about to start a new KM BM from scratch, and that means exploring everything again, I have not been around the entire countryside of Ancaria or the Underworld for a while. I'll take screenshots while I ride along. Is there anything other than graves you're interested in? (This will not happen over night, so you have plenty of time to think about where you want to send the not-(yet)-so-great Sourcerer* Martino) *Yes, Sourcerer. Look it up.

Hahaha Just anything and everything with a reference to it... I really liked the soccer/football field reference for instance. So I would say look out for... graves, NPCs, quests, scenery that has a story behind it. I wouldn't expect you to go out of your way hunting for things, but just as you explore and do the quests if you happen to come across anything just screenshot it. This isn't directed at you specifically, but something I always wanted to do and never got around to was to list every gravestone in the game and it's location and see how many we could link to either an Ascaron employee, a community member/character and to real life references/books/movies whatever....

There are LOTS of references on the graves, I think I'll have to do them in batches, even if I probably won't get all of them.
I've got a question about the Magical Thistle quest from Likara in Braverock, perhaps you can answer it:
In all the German versions of the game, Tussock (reference to Tazok from Baldur's Gate) the trader is on a wicked timer. That timer is set off as soon as you enter the greater Braverock area, even if you never enter the town proper, and if you don't save him within a day or two after getting to the area, he'll disappear and you can't finish the quest. Is that the same in the English version?

I don't know the details of what sets it off or how long it takes but I have encountered the glitch where he isn't there when you try to save him and so therefore can't complete the quest.

Oh, Farkle!
I tried about six approaches to the Thistle quest and never could find that trader. Now I know why. 'Course, in all six I spent time wandering the town before heading for the trader...Ŋє۱Єlєοѕ
