Hello everyone!
I had thought to post this in 'Character Builds', but apparently that is not possible. So now I post it here. Maby someone is interested to read about this character build, I haven't seen it yet at this forum.
A few months ago I started a Wood Elf in Single Player (Sacred Gold/Underworld), based on a character guide I found on the German Sacred site inSacred.de. Until then my favourite character had been the Dark Elf, because I like close combat but with elegance. I did play a Bow/Magic Wood Elf up to about level 55 once, but only shooting arrows from afar is not what I like best.
Then I tried a Long Handled Weapon Seraphim, but somehow that didn’t work out like I hoped.
I found a character guide for a Wood Elf called ‘Stangen-Tänzerin’ which intrigued me immediately, so I decided to try her out.
She is wonderful to watch! I didn’t know, but a Wood Elf holding a Long Handled Weapon has a pretty nice animation if you let her stand about for a bit. Try it!
At first she was a bit vulnerable of course (you need quite a bit of red potions), but in time that got better, adding points to constitution and armour, and using life leech.
I started out in Bronze till level 10, then went to Silver, and I am now (march 2009) at level 72 in Gold (nearing the end of the story). She holds out quite well, but dragons are out of her league. Unless I can find her a safe spot from where she can fire arrows indefinitely, which takes forever but got the job done for the Fire Dragon. I have stayed away from the Ice Elfs as well. They are too much for her.
I started out with the given skills (in brackets the suggestions from the german char guide)
- Magic Lore is not used, no extra points
- Weapon Lore (go to 52, later to 88)
- Agility (to 33, boost Parry later)
- Level 3: Constitution (to 68)
- Level 6: Concentration (to 52, later more)
- Level 12: Long-Handled Weapons (to 50+)
- Level 20: Armour (to 51)
- Level 30: Parry (to 51)
- Level 50: Trading (to 30, later more)
By now I do regret not having taken Ranged Combat. The bow is not her main weapon, but it has become very handy for taking out some foes from a distance before the group reaches her.
Attributes: focus on:
- Strength (boost that after she becomes less vulnerable)
- Physical Regeneration
- Dexterity and endurance are also important, as is good armour. I try to alternate.
Now, at level 72 Gold, the situation is as follows (including bonuses from gear, rings etc)
Agility 64
Weapons lore 42
Constitution 36
Concentration 54
Long-handled weapons 41
Trading 16
Parrying 20
Strength 142
Endurance 149
Dexterity 250
Physical regen 234
Charisma 208
(Mental regen 202)
I use only a few combat arts: mostly
- Eye for an Eye and
- Multiple Shot
Sometimes I use:
- Multi Hit
- Hard Hit
- Penetrating Arrow
- Recuperation (only in the beginning, to make up for vulnerability, just 1 or 2 runes)
Plant Cage was suggested in the guide, but I cannot make it work properly.
I do not use any combos.
The levels for the combat arts are still quite low, since the regen time for special moves is still quite high. By now EfE is at lvl 8, Multiple Shot at 26, Multihit at 13, Hard Hit at 9, Penetrating Arrow at 9.
Weapons
In the beginning I sometimes used a good dagger and shield, but the main weapons are Long-Handled Weapons. The way she uses the different L-HW varies a little bit, nice to see the animations. For a time I mostly used a special item called ‘proven battle staff’ with magic damage, and that worked quite well, but since I found Israfael’s Wraith I have been using that (finding higher versions of it and upgrading it with rings).
I get reasonably good L-H Weapons from dealers, though mostly magic and/or fire, hardly any with poison. Spears give a beautiful animation, but seem less powerful than staffs. Three-toothed spears are a bit more powerfull than others.
Unfortunately I have not found as many useful unique items as I had hoped for. The magic ones are not very interesting for this character.
I have been able to buy or find some pretty strong bows not requiring Ranged Combat skills, so I use them regularly.
Socketing
Life Leech is quite important, given her natural vulnerability.
Phys Regen, Strength etc.
Conclusion so far
This is not the strongest or most effective character possible, but she is holding out quite well and I enjoy her elegance. She would be stronger if she had the Ranged Combat skill as a support. I am looking forward to seeing how she copes after Gold (I have no experience in higher levels myself).
If there's any interest, I will let you know how it goes at a later date (I am not playing very often at the moment).
