I am new to these forums and how to ask questions etc, so please excuse my old age, when I finish the Brother in need quest, taking the potions etc, and then doing the second part of the quest, Conrad is still with me, I can't get rid of him, apart from letting him die. if he does die it says quest failed but by now i am up to the Shaddur's Tower quest, anyone else gotten stuck with Conrad?

I've not seen that before on that quest, but I will try to repeat what you've done today when I get a chance. If I can't figure it out, hopefully someone else has seen the glitch and can help you out. #welcome# to the forum

Did you successfully kill all the pirates in the demon lair where you find the demon lord? The glitch there often involves one remaining demon (which is part of the whole objective in the second part of the quest) in the cave left to wander off. Another glitch involves Conrad dying simultaneously with the demon lord and now you have a successfully finished quest with an unfairly "failed" result. Those are the only explanations I can think of. If you can mow down all the enemies in the cave of the 2nd part of the quest, you can get rid of him in the cave by bringing him near the corpse of the demon lord. He will have an exclamation on his head. Talk to him before walking out of the cave or else he'll follow you around.
Hope that helps.

anyone else gotten stuck with Conrad? Hmmmm, good old Conrad Densewood. If he's the one I'm thinking of, in an older version (pre 2.28) at least he'd also keep the quest completed "!" over his head, which allowed a minor exploit of repeatedly clicking on him and often getting runes as a reward. Personally, it was never worth the aggravation of having him in my party to me, so I only got stuck with him in MP when someone else started the quest then left the server and he transferred to me. I've never heard of a way to get rid of him other than killing him (lol, or leaving the server and sticking someone else with him if you're in MP), and have gotten so into the habit of skipping that quest that I haven't tested it in 2.28 yet. I'll try to check it out tonight

I ended u with a helper who stuck with me to the end when I first played Underworld (I was running 2.24 at the time). I'm pretty sure it was Conrad. Eventually, he died. I don't think I got any failed quest message when he did.
Hmmmm ... this is worth investigating. But not me. I'm spending all my time in Pirate King Online.

did it twice, killed everyone in the cave and out of the cave, asked Conrad the minute i killed the demon and friends but still he follows me around, sometimes he helps but in a big fight have to look after him first, just in case he has to do something else with me. thanks to everyone for their input, looks like Conrad must die.

yep that's the turkey, he "!" over his head can be pressed many times and still he says the same thing, don't get any benefit from having him along and i am playing SP, might see if there is a patch for the game i have, not sure of the version. have done the quests twice with the same results, everyone dead but Conrad and me, got to be a bug, gliche or something. Thanks for the info and help

That was indeed a known bug for earlier versions of Underworld - I'm still not sure if it was corrected in 2.28 yet I started to test it in SP last night, then remembered that none of the NPC's spawn unless you're going through the main quest path, and I didn't have enough time to run it to that point

Yes that was a common glitch... he would give you your quest reward but would follow you around until he died and you would get a quest failed mark. But since you DO get the reward even with the glitch it really doesn't matter in the end that the quest is marked as failed...

You're welcome I know this is strange but that never happened to me even on earlier patches. Several co-players encountered it though. Glad to know you know what to do now.

Ok, I carved out some time and ran through this several times in 2.28 and was not able to recreate the problem. As Deonhower Colmyne noted, it didn't always happen, so this isn't a guarantee that it's been removed in 2.28 but for now I'd say it's a very real possibility.
