Getting to Tyr-Fasul from Mascarell

Folks; I'm stuck.

I'm playing SP and I;ve gotten as far as Mascarell (well, Timberton, but that's because I got STUCK at Mascarell and kept going, trying to find a way to the little town I could see...)

I've done all the quests in Mascarell I can do in SP, but when I try to go to find the Unknown Warrior, I cannot OPEN the gate out of the barony of Mascarell - you know, the gateway in the stone wall just a little north-west of the city? I can see that there is a portcullis there. I can talk to the guards. But, while I can CLICK on the gate (I get the green "do something" arrow), it won't open.

I have gone around this town everywhichway, but that gate seems to be the only way to get to that particular CHUNK of the forest. (I even ended up accidentally killing Lorimar trying to find a way 'around'). I've explored all of the surrounding areas and forest, and followed the creek as far as I can - I can see a couple of bridges that I can't reach because there's rocks or trees in the way.

Can someone please explain it to me in very small words? I've read the walkthrough (and it's great) but it doesn't say how I **GET** from Mascarell to Tyr-Fasul if I can't open the &^%$#ing gate.

(I updated to whatever the current version of Sacred for North America is if you don't have the Underworld expansion. I guess that's 1.5? Running a P4 HT at 2.4 gHz, NVidia 7600 512 MB, XP SP2, 2G Ram... if any of that helps... I can't figure out if it's a glitch or if I'm missing something....)

-Go to the bridge where the quest "boris richfield" is located [check quest tutorial if you have not done this side quest yet].
-Just before crossing the bridge, follow the mainland coast south. Go as far south as you can, without taking a path through the forest.
-To the southwest you should see a wooden bridge.
-Switch your CA to combat jump (i think it's called)
-Hold *Ctrl* and right click on the bridge. You should have jumped onto the bridge. If not, maneuver into a position that you can.
-Cross the bridge, going east
-Follow the path on the ground
-You should come to a fork soon after you enter a forest. Take the path going north.
-Follow this path.
-You should come to another fork. The left path goes to a cave. Take the right path.
-You should come to another fork. The left path continues toward Tyr-Hadar and the twin dragons. The right path leads to Tyr-Fasul

The path to boris richfield starts to the left of a graveyard northwest of the smith of mascarell.

i just tested it for myself, and it does work.

Two things: The gate will open as part of the main quest series, and if you go ahead of it, you'll just have to go all the way back to Tyr-Fasul eventually (its a long way)

And for jumping onto the bridge, there is a rock blocking your way. You can try to jump over it, or you can jump to the other side of the river, and then jump back to a point just below the rock.

WAHOOO!!!! Yes! that does it - thank you SO much... I didn't even really track that Combat Jump could be used like that. I just jumped the rock and called my horse (who somehow, now, finds a way through... silly game engine) and am on my way.

Now if I could just figure out the farmer stuck in the Inn wall in Fairie's Crossing... but that's a different thread.
