Hi!
I'm not sure I'm at the right place in this forum to post this question.
I am playing a Dark Elf in SP. Now I'm at level 43 in Silver, on my way to retrieve the Element of Warmth. It seems I find very few special items. So far for myself I have only found Khrag's Shoulder Guards, Khrag's Belt and Bahamut's Breastplate (twice). And then the occasional finds for other characters. I seem to remember that in previous games (both Dark Elf and Wood Elf) I had found many more special items by now. Am I remembering wrongly, is it normal that special finds are few and far apart? Or do they start coming after you reach a certain level? Do actions or choices of skills or weapons have an influence? Or is it just chance?
I hope someone knows!
Greetings,

I think mostly it's luck... although if you are fighting more group leaders or "boss" monsters then your chances go up. Also, there are items with magic find (like diablo) that give you a better chance of finding those special items. There aren't any skills that will increase this, but the trading skill will help you trade for rare items... I prefer the rare items over set and unique items in *most* cases.
The only downside to the trading skill is you actually have to put A LOT of points in it for it to be useful. If you don't plan on maxing it out at some time it becomes not really worth taking the skill, and your point would be better invested somewhere else.
I don't know if character level has anything to do with finding special items, but I know when you get higher in level you typically can take on harder monsters which have a little higher chance of dropping items. I can remember on several occasions clearing out Orc Cave just one time and having a full inventory of runes and set/unique items.
Hope this helps

Yeah, the RNG seems a bit obnoxious at times. I'll have chars that rarely find anything, then have chars that can't sell off set items fast enough.

Here are some more hints to get good items: - don't die. No seriously, don't. Your survival bonus will increase your chance to find good items significantly. - Do some dragon shopping. When the dragon is almost dead, do a quicksave. Kill the dragon. If you don't like the drops, load again and try again.
