There are two reasons why we have an image size limit... The first is to cut down on loading times (particularly for those members who have slower internet connections) and second to prevent the unattractive stretching out of the forum width.
The image limits are:
width: 550
height: 1500
If possible please resize or crop your image BEFORE posting it. Cropping means to cut the unnecessary parts out of an image using a graphics program. For example, here is a screenshot of my horse that I cropped:
I do understand that some people don't have access to or don't know how to use graphics programs. Also you might want to post an image that just has to be larger than the allowed size for people to see it properly. Therefore, I will give you two methods of creating a thumbnail image...
The first (and easiest) is to use the ImageShack uploader which is a feature on this forum.
Step 1: Click on the "Browse..." button which can be found here:
Step 2: In the window that pops up choose the file you want to upload from your computer and click "Open".
Step 3: Now click the "Host It" button, which is found just right of the "Browse..." button mentioned above.
Step 4: The ImageShack upload window will pop-up and it will take a few seconds/minutes for your image to upload. When the upload is complete the window will look like this:
Step 5: If you have uploaded a small image click the circle to choose the first option which is marked "Full Image". Or if you have uploaded a large image click the circle next to the second option which is marked "Clickable Thumbnail Image:". Then just click the "Add to Post" button at the bottom left which will insert the proper code directly into the post field.
Note: Using this method will insert an image that looks just like the thumbnail image shown in the pop-up upload window, which has the black bar at the bottom showing the dimensions of the full size image. This makes it very clear to everyone that it is a clickable thumbnail image.
The second method is a tad more complicated and should only be used if you have uploaded the image to your personal image host account.
What you want to do is use the following tags when inserting an image:
You want to use the same URL (the "Direct Link") in both URL spots. You can specify exactly what the dimensions will be. If you don't calculate each of the two dimensions it can make the thumbnail a bit warped (which doesn't really matter all that much). Using this method will create a thumbnail that looks like this:
Or if you mess up the dimensions a bit it will look something like this:
Note: There isn't an obvious indicator that it is a thumbnail image so you might want to mention in your post that you can click the image to see the full size version.
