I like getting the funny looks when I tell people my number is not a cell.

I'm almost required to have a cellphone at work, and at home I don't have a phone so I kinda use the cell instead

I loooooved my cellphone and really miss having it, they are just so dang expensive! In HK people change their phones *extremely* frequently. Cellphone = Fashion to them... people like to have the latest, hottest, coolest-looking models. That's why HK and Japan are famous among cellphone manufacturers - they test new cool-looking models there. Functionally impressive but not-so-cool-looking ones are tested in US/European markets first. Those might never hit the market in HK. I'm not the typical HK people though... for all the years I've owned a cell, I'm only using the second model right now. My first is one of the first generation of WAP phones, from Siemens. My current one is O2 Mini. I don't care about price... I can afford it (budget is around HKD6000, ~USD770). I just want it to be a good one that can meet my needs (and that it can stay useful for a few years). I'm looking for my third phone right now... still waiting for that perfect model to hit the market. Sony-Ericsson has one that is functionally impressive (and looks cool) that will be out later this year.

Actually what I've done to save money is cancel my home phone service. When I was paying my cell phone bill alone (me only on it) I had unlimited text messages and what amounted to unlimited calling anytime - and that cost me about $45 a month - compared to $30 for a home phone that I don't get to carry with me or text. Now it's a little more expensive, but in a transitional period - it won't be as bad sooner or later...

I work for PCCW, in its IT Solutions branch... my company gave me free home phone service (with all the value-added services for free), plus a low priced mobile phone service (with lots of free value-added services).

Wow, lucky you kcwong! Well I wasn't actually talking about the phone itself, I am perfectly happy with the freebie phone they give you with your service here. It is the monthly cell phone service bill that is nuts! I have an unlimited national calling plan on my home phone and the monthly bill is about $56.... but the cell phones were $75 a month each!

That is one of the reasons I have not gotten a cell, my home phone is 50 a month and I can call Cali and leave it with an open line there all month and it wont cost me anything more. I know that I do not talk enough to need that plan though, so I will probably go down to like a 30 dollar a month limited one, and then some time in the future I might get a real cell, but I will probably do with that one what I do with my prepaid one now, leave it in the car, forget about it, and have the battery die.

So the other day I was riding on the bicycle trails around here, and I saw a person riding around who was texting, which has now replaced the most annoying use of a cell I have seen, which used to be driving while using them.

Lol. People and their phones. Can't even ride a bicycle without texting. I've seen a guy reading a book while riding a bicycle ;D
