THE NINJA MAGE
Introduction:
A lot of people think that hiding and running is not a good tactic. But with games challenging your stealth skills like Metal Gear, Splinter Cell, and Tenchu to name some of them, it would be hard to deny that there is great satisfaction in killing your opponent without drawing attention. Monsters and humans alike, roam the world of Ancaria with eyes wide open for the next kill… until you close it for them unexpectedly. Hear the water drops?
Areas of Concentration:
This build is all about not getting caught. It’s not suggested to people who do not like buffing their characters before unleashing hell. If you like pure and simple hack, slash, cast, kill, rinse, repeat method there are guides appropriate for that. My guide will be all about speed, invisibility, accuracy, and best of all… water.
For skills, spells, attributes and combos I leave the numbers to the reader. All you have to know are two simple rules: KEEP THE REGEN TIME LOW and MANAGE THE POINTS WELL. Tweak your Ninja Mage to your liking and pace but I will indicate where to go and what to do with your character should you decide to try this build.
Skills:
Magic Lore
Max it out if possible, let it be the highest if not. You need this to inflict decent damage
Water Magic
This is your primary asset, second highest if possible
Meditation
Allot points enough to grant you manageable regeneration time
Constitution
You’ll need to up your blood-bank a notch higher
From here you can mix and match what ever you think is necessary here are a couple I can suggest:
Long Handled Weapons
If you prefer to use it
Sword Lore
To better the image of a ninja
Agility
If you prefer to raise your defense
Riding
If you prefer to move a little faster when crossing one end of the map to the other
Earth Magic
I use this to strengthen the effects of Stone Skin
Air Magic
If you prefer to follow up your defense with Whirlwind or add Gust of Wind to your arsenal
Fire Magic
If you would like to substitute the defensive-damage of Whirlwind with Flame Skin
Spells:
Ice Shards
To the highest level you can afford to cast without a disappointing time. Balance your Mental Regeneration attribute with the level you prefer. Damage is everything in this build because you need to take the enemy down with one blow… or as I say it… spray.
Water Form
Not a lot of people prefer to use this skill because it has a short duration, and it’s seemingly useless. For this build it’s going to be your cornerstone of success. This spell allows you to be stealthy despite mobs. There are several creatures that can sniff you out, but most of the time, they won’t be able to. If you attack or cast you will be seen so be in a good position to take your foes out in a swift blow.
Cataract of Agility
This increases your walking speed significantly if you allot a good number of points to it. It’s not a bad investment. After all, you are a ninja .
Ring of Ice
Should your attempt to remain invisible be foiled you have a scapegoat. Cast one and watch them struggle to catch you. Cast a couple if you’re running around a boss.
Ghost Meadow
This is your lifeline because it’s instrumental in your execution of spells in the small window of opportunity that maybe present in various situations.
From here you can add or mix a few more spells. Here are some I deem valuable to your success:
Stone Skin – If you are getting caught often you may want to boost your defense so you can take a blow and not crawl with your tail folded between your legs
Shield Wall – missiles can give the BM a headache early on in the game, though this might not be useful in preserving the effect of the build and it’s not popularly used in emergency situations
Reiki – I view this as a-must but since you may be traversing the shadows you may not need to regenerate often.
Whirlwind – If you are getting mobbed this may serve as a good damage dealer to close-quarter combat.
Flame Skin – same purpose as Whirlwind for this build
Phase Shift – you may want this if you’re annoyed of the fact that you do not have Combat Jump to skip rivers or crevices and the bridge is too friggin far. I suggest keep this at level 1 since the equipments will boost it significantly.
Attributes:
Mental Regeneration – this is essential in your quest to be fast and furious
That’s the only place I concentrate in BUT it’s not the only one you need. From there you can choose between boosting your health, or your endurance.
Equipment:
Amarri’s Secret Set
This is a very good set because it grants you additional % bonus on top of your overall damage. Ice Shards can be devastating at the right level. Imagine adding several more on top of that. My set gives 14% bonus though it may vary between difficulty levels.
Solwenyr’s Trial
Completing this set (socket all 3 rings into the staff) grants you more aide in reducing your spells’ regeneration time. The rings give various helpful properties including speed and regeneration time. The staff itself gives +10 to All Spells in Niobium.
Elohinir’s Magic Gloves
You may or may not have this because foremost it’s rare and hard to get. But the +10 to All spells (may differ according to difficulty level) help in boosting your damage plus it gives bonuses for Mental Regeneration and Meditation. Be wary of your casting time though.
Paternus’ Boots
These babies give you good foot speed ranging from +42 to +47 in Niobium with additional perks for Experience Gained, Physical Regeneration and Defense.
The rest I leave to you. Socket rings that boost your regeneration time for spells or for speed. Runes can help too especially Vamp runes that give +3% life leech. This can help you carry less potions. If you acquire more than two sets of rings for the Solwenyr’s Trial Set, socket the rest into your armor.
THE NINJA:
By now you get the general concept that you must be invisible (Water Form), nimble (Cataract of Agility) and deadly (Ice Shards or BO). Deal decent damage and stay transparent. Your damage should not necessarily be high, but enough to kill in one or two sprays. If not, do it in small doses with several waves. Bosses will be tough since this build will be more fragile than those that tank on defense so you may want Stone Skin and put more points into Physical Regeneration or Constitution. Lay Rings of Ice in your wake if difficult boss monsters are tailing you. So have fun, wreak havoc, go undetected after all it’s hard to catch water in the palm of your hands.
