ok, heh a little map guide... its to difficult to get full map at the upload size on photobucket -first of all take the ressurect shrine in thylysium -then go to red spot and take quest from lady in the light -go to the big blue spot, talk to the man, -go to the small blue spot and pick up the map and go back to that the same man -press f12 and ferry to yellow spot, kill mutants and get mount

My problem is the boat trip... I don't know if there's any in orc/human lands. I usually just hike all the way back to The Wall (I rush to special mount, so I'd rather not fight too much in human lands at low levels) and take the portal to Thylysium. Is there a better/faster way than to set your monolith so far away? I do a few easier quests along the way and would need to activate monoliths in other locations.

it is a dock if you continue east from Kufferath Castle, just stay close to the coast, when you meet T-mutants aswell as Dark knigths you are at the rigth place
edit: and one in orclands just north of the octo region boss

I've a problem in that although I've completed all the primary parts of this quest, I can't see the island on the map from Thylisium, I don't know if that's because I've a wide screen, but the map always centers on your character's position, so I can't activate the Island when I attempt to fire up the boat captain in Thylisium. Is there anywhere else you can get there from? Even fully reduced the Isle is off screen. It would be nice if the map would scroll like S1, instead of just magnifying.

Does the speed skill make your character as fast as a mount? I'm playing a Temp Guardian and still have 4 skills left to set. I only have a horse now, and find that I'd really like to use my combat arts more, but it's a pain to get off/on all the time. I usually leave the horse when I know I'm going to get in a scruff and then whistle for it later.

You can still use combat arts while you are on your special mount from my understanding.

I would think that the speed skill will make you, eventually faster than a mounted char, but that is probably only if the char on the mount does not take the riding skill. Then the fastest possible would probably be somebody on a mount with the riding skill, but even with that the modifier on the mount would need to say something like "Speed +X Riding Modifier".
With the newest patch the time it takes to get on and off your mounts has been decreased, so that may not be as much of a pain now.
celt is correct in that you can use your CA's while on your special mount. They are a little different though. Like with my sera the cast time for me to use my battle stance buff is very short, like the tiger just rears up and it is on, and my pelting strikes, is less hits overall than unmounted.

Also, horses blocks all your CAs... including permanent buffs. That makes using normal horses unacceptable for me, as all my builds rely on using buffs.
I've heard that some of the new bosses can knock your buffs off though... so I'll need to be very careful...
